International Leadership Association hosts inaugural women and leadership conference

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. - June 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Women’s leadership takes center stage as scholars, educators and practitioners unite for the inaugural women and leadership conference next week. The conference, organized by the International Leadership Association’s Women and Leadership Affinity Group, will take place at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, CA, June 9 – 12. Part of Asilomar’s centennial celebration, this event will create an exceptional opportunity for participants to examine ideas and practices about women and leadership from rich multisector, multinational and multicultural perspectives.

Juliet V. Garcia, president of the University of Texas at Brownsville and a true pioneer in the field of leadership, will deliver the keynote address. A passionate activist for increased access to higher education, Garcia embodies the conference theme of Building, Bridging, and Blazing Pathways for Women and Leadership.

“The theme of the conference provides a critical forum for bringing together top scholars, leaders, and practitioners to discuss the latest research and work touching on women and leadership,” says Susan Madsen, conference chair. “Participants will explore how to use their talents and expertise to contribute to the expansion of women’s leadership worldwide.”

Asilomar’s rustic setting and peaceful surroundings provide the ultimate environment for this conference. Additionally, this year marks the centennial anniversary of the first Young Women’s Christian Association’s (YWCA) student leadership conference at Asilomar, so the location resonates with the conference goals.
