Kingston NY Shamrock Run Raised $10,0000 for People's Place Food Pantry

KINGSTON, N.Y. - June 7, 2013 - PRLog -- KINGSTON, NY June 4, 2013  – A record number of runners in the 25th Anniversary of the  Shamrock Run (http://www.shamrockrunners.org/past.html), along with a field of 13 sponsors and contributors, made it possible for Team Ireland to donate $10,000 to People's Place Thrift Store & Food  Pantry (http://www.peoplesplacekingston.org).

This is the third consecutive year the Shamrock Run contribution, sourced from runners' fees, sponsors and individuals, reached $10,000, said Robert J. Ryan, race director and president of Ryan and Ryan Insurance Brokers, Inc. based here.

Held a week prior to the official St. Patrick's Day this year, 4,747 people ran or trekked the 2-miles from Academy Green to Broadway – a 10 percent increase in participants from last year.  

"It's a remarkable tribute to the spirit of Kingston and the region, that after 25 years we're seeing participation increase and year after year that we're able to help those who most help the community," Ryan added.

The funds will support the 41 year old charity that last year gave out over 125,000 meals to over 5,750 households, provided 587 families the fixings for a homemade Thanksgiving dinner, and 934 Christmas gifts for children. The thrift store provides free and affordable clothing, footwear and household items and its sales are one of the major sources of funding for the Food Pantry. "People's Place has played a crucial role for decades, but it's in times like these when so many face economic stress, that their contributions mean the most," Ryan concluded.
