WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - June 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Westlake Village, California—Oaks Christian School graduates continue to distinguish themselves with academic excellence, artistic expression, and athletic distinction while serving the community and the world.  Held on May 30, this year’s OCS Commencement Ceremonies honored student leaders who exemplify the OCS mission statement.

Student testimonies are often the highlight of the OCS Commencement Ceremonies and this year was no different.   A math and science scholar and service leader, Brandon Flannery presented words of encouragement to his fellow classmates.  An OCS Top Ten Scholar, Brandon shared his love for chemistry and his gratitude for the bonds of friendship created during his years at Oaks Christian School.  Brandon uses his math skills to help others, having created LifeofHelp.com to connect students to community service opportunities.  His science skills have already been applied to preliminary research towards a cure for colon cancer.  Brandon will attend the College of Chemistry at University of California, Berkeley. OCS Head Prefect Cody Phillips also addressed his fellow graduates.  Cody challenged his classmates to pursue their goals with eternal truths and values in mind. Cody will be attending Princeton University to pursue a degree in politics and play baseball.  Cody was a member of the OCS Varsity Baseball Team, which recently won the CIF Southern Section Division IV Championship.  An OCS Top Ten Scholar, Cody has also dedicated hundreds of hours to community service, working with Children’s Hunger Fund and serving in Guatemala, Uganda, Peru and Mexico.  At graduation, Cody was honored with the Headmaster’s Award given to the senior who exemplifies the mission and character values of Oaks Christian School.

More students were honored with graduation awards specific to aspects of the OCS mission.
