(West Palm Beach, FL – June 3, 2013)  Tracy C. Butler, Director of Education for the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, today announced the Center’s Outstanding Local Teacher and Student for the month of May: Matt Stabile, Chair of the Acting Department of G-Star School of the Arts, and Antonae Palmer, a sophomore at Palm Beach Lakes High School. Both schools are located in West Palm Beach.

Matt Stabile

With 20 years of teaching experience, the last seven at G-Star School of the Arts, Matt Stabile believes that “there is no greater goal in the education and development of young minds than to open them to the experience and expression of others... We cannot be fooled into believing there is a separation between the arts and sciences, that we are somehow able to teach a child to build a rocket, without first helping them to dream of the adventure in visiting the moon.”

At G-Star, Mr. Stabile works with more than 500 students in grades 9-12, who are studying such subjects as Stagecraft, Directing, Improvisation, Playwriting and Acting. He and his wife Niki Fridh, an actor and arts educator, are residents of Delray Beach.

“Matt Stabile is an outstanding Theatre teacher, playwright, actor and director. He has served as an Acting Instructor for the Kravis Center’s Young Players' Workshop, our new De George Academy for Performing Arts and our annual summer ArtsCamp program,” says Ms. Butler.  “In addition, for several of our ArtsCamp sessions, Matt also served as Artistic Coordinator, responsible for shaping the culminating performance. Because he has such a unique gift for teaching young people, I look forward to working with him for seasons to come.”

Antonae Palmer

Although she is in the medical program at Palm Beach Lakes High School and intends to eventually become a dentist, Antonae Palmer enjoys being a volunteer and youth mentor at the Kravis Center. “I think it is very important to share arts with young people (because it) gives them a nonviolent way to vent and chase their dreams,” she says. A resident of West Palm Beach, she is the proud daughter of Kendra George and Anthony Palmer.

“Antonae Palmer is a talented poet and rap artist who was featured in this season's Stage Awakenings student performance program,” adds Ms. Butler. “She was then invited to take part in our Spring Break Residency program as a youth mentor, where she devoted her entire spring break vacation and more to guiding younger students in the creation of an original showcase performance. I admire Antonae's commitment to our two-week intensive program, her positive outlook and how much she encourages younger participants.”

Kravis Center Education

“After 20 productive years of Kravis Center arts educational programming, we are proud to spotlight the motivated teachers and dedicated students who have contributed to our success,” said Ms. Butler. “Our Outstanding Teacher and Student of the month will each receive two free tickets to an upcoming performance of their choice at the Kravis Center.”

“A key component of the Kravis Center’s mission is to offer comprehensive education programs,” she added. “The Center is committed to supporting and sustaining high quality, accessible and affordable educational programs for children and adults of our community.”

Note:  The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts Education Programs are Bringing the Arts to the Next Generation & the Next Generation to the Arts. These Education Programs are supported in part by the Annual Palm Beach Wine Auction.
