VENTURA, Calif. - June 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Accomplished Mediator, Broker and President of Troop Real Estate, Laura Lee Anthony, was recently invited to speak at the Ventura Center for Dispute Settlement’s 2013 mediation conference. The event, held in conjunction with the Ventura Bar Association, drew a crowd of approximately 150 registered attendees.

Anthony graduated from Pepperdine Law School with a Master’s degree in Dispute Resolution and began her mediation and arbitration business in 1997. In the same year, she also began working with the Ventura Superior Court as a Senior Mediator. Her business, Affirmative Dispute Resolution Services, focused on cases involving real estate. With over three decades of real estate experience, Anthony’s professional history intersected with her extensive alternative conflict resolution training in the form of a successful business that catered to clients’ real estate mediation and arbitration needs.

At the conference, Anthony discussed the entrepreneurial aspect of mediation and arbitration. She urged listeners to “keep the passion” while maintaining “discipline and accountability” in their business. An important aspect of building a successful business is what Anthony identified as the “niche marketing strategy.”

“What separates you from other mediators? You need to deliberately and repeatedly communicate these special talents,” she urged attendees. In a standing room-only session, Anthony also emphasized the importance of knowing your audience. “Identify their needs and ask yourself, ‘How can I exceed them?’”

Anthony admitted that her mediation training has changed her life. “The courses I took at Pepperdine as I was earning my degree changed how I dealt with my personal relationships. We just aren’t commonly trained in those situations. None of our classes throughout a typical academic career teach us how to resolve conflict,” she explained.

“If I could suggest just one thing, it would be to sign up for a mediation program; regardless of your professional background. Ventura Center for Dispute Settlement offers one in conjunction with the Bar Association. It is one of the best things anyone can do to improve their communication skills,” Anthony said.
