Eco Africa Social Ventures To Participate In Turtle Bay Festival

Unique Handmade Goods from Zimbabwe To Be Sold By Charity To Help Impoverished Families In Zimbabwe

NEW YORK - June 5, 2013 - PRLog -- New York, NY -- Eco Africa Social Ventures, a volunteer-run 501(c)3 non-profit organization, will be taking part in its first street fair in the New York City, the Turtle Bay Festival to be held on June 16, 2013.  Unique, hand-made papercraft from Zimbabwean artists will be made available for purchase by the public. Sales will go to helping the artists to build self-sustaining businesses in their home country, providing valuable economic support for their families and their communities.

The situation in Zimbabwe is grim for too many families. The people of the nation struggle with an unemployment rate of nearly 60% and many of them live under the constant threat of upheaval, poverty, and starvation. Eco Africa Social Ventures is dedicated to empowering talented artists in the country by providing them with the means to create their art and by building sustainable markets in which to sell it. The Turtle Bay Festival represents one of the first major opportunities for people in the New York Metropolitan Area to learn about the artists, to see their work, and to take part in their economic empowerment.

At the festival, located Lexington Avenue between 42nd and 54th Street in New York City and running from 10 am until 4 pm, products will be made available for both children and adults. Among the items to be made available for kids are colorful paper dolls, papercraft art kits featuring a variety of African animals, and greeting card kits. Other products include notebooks, journals, book marks, photo albums and more.

Information on the artists, their lives and their work is available at the fair, on request and also on Eco Africa Social Ventures’ Website, EcoAfricaSV.org. Opportunities to find photos, to donate, to become a reseller, to volunteer and to sign up to join the mailing list are also available.

Eco Africa Social Ventures helps communities living in poverty to launch or expand sustainable crafting enterprises. By offering financial assistance, operational support and access to global markets, the organization creates pathways to economic empowerment and assists in the creation of stronger communities.
