NOIDA, India - June 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Noida, June 5, 2013: Attero has launched a month long series of E-waste Collection Drives as part of its Environment Month activities, beginning on World Environment Day (June 5, 2013). Organized as part of Attero and the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) Clean E-India Initiative, the Environment Month events are aimed at keeping electronic waste out of landfills, by spreading awareness about e-waste and promoting safe, responsible and eco-friendly recycling. The e-waste collection drives will be targeting various consumer sections, including corporate organizations, PSUs as well as residential societies during the period of the Environment Month.

Attero has tied up with Freescale Semiconductor India Pvt. Ltd. for organizing a Corporate E-waste Collection Drive at their Noida and Hyderabad offices as part of its Environment Month activities. Launched on June 5, 2013, the collection drive will run over a period of ten days. During this period, Attero’s E-Waste Collection Boxes were placed at various locations in the office premises to facilitate collection and eco-friendly disposal of e-waste. Employees were informed about the hazards associated with e-waste and the necessity of proper eco-friendly recycling, and were encouraged to drop off as much of their old broken down electronics in Attero’s collection boxes for environmentally safe and responsible e-waste management. Attero will be conducting more Corporate E-waste Collection Drives by partnering with other organizations and PSUs as part of the Environment Month activities.

Attero also launched its Environment Month RWA E-waste Collection Drive on June 5, 2013, with the aim of directly reaching out to consumers in their homes. The first RWA E-waste Collection Drive was organized at Nilgiri Apartments in Alaknanda locality of South Delhi and will be followed by collection drives in other residential societies all over the Delhi NCR region over the duration of the Environment Month. The collection drive began on Environment Day and will run for a week, during which Attero’s E-waste Collection Boxes were placed in the society. Residents were educated about the problem of e-waste through presentations and flyers and encouraged to responsibly recycle their e-waste by depositing their old end of life electronics at Attero’s collection boxes.

The Environment Month E-waste Collection Drives were launched as part of the Clean E-India Initiative. The collaboration between Attero and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a World Bank entity, the Clean E-India Initiative aims to raise public awareness about the environmental and health threats associated with electronic waste and establish an efficient take back model for old electronics directly from consumers.

Electronic waste has in recent times become one of the fastest growing waste streams. Electronics contain numerous toxic and hazardous components, which need to be disposed carefully and responsibly once a device reaches the end of its useful life to prevent environmental harm. E-waste in India is all set to reach the 1.72 million metric tons mark by 2020. According to UN study, e-waste in India from computers alone will rise by 500% by 2020. These figures emphasize the necessity of environmentally responsible e-waste management. Powered by Attero’s cutting edge green solution for e-waste recycling and a pan India reverse logistics network, Attero and IFC are working together with all the other stakeholders involved in the electronics supply chain including manufacturers, OEMs and even the informal rag pickers and scrap dealers to establish a program where e-waste can be collected directly from the homes of the consumers and shipped off for safe recycling at Attero’s facility.
