DENVER - June 4, 2013 - PRLog -- The Rocky Mountain Airshow, held August 16-18 at Rocky Mountain Metro Airport in Broomfield, Colorado just northwest of the Denver metro, is excited to be the First, and Only, civilian airshow authorized by the FAA to have a high power sport rocket launch or UAV demonstrations, and we’ll have them both this year!

Also debuting at the show this year is the appearance of FIFI, the World’s only flying WWII B-29 Superfortress both flying and offering once in a lifetime flights for the public!  FIFI has proven to be one of the biggest attendance draws to airshows across the country and will be making its only appearance in the Denver area at the Rocky Mountain Airshow.  Also new this year is a Jet Glider and Wing Walking team.

The Rocky Mountain Airshow rocket launch will take place on Saturday, Aug. 17 – the first ever sanctioned by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Interns at United Launch Alliance (ULA) in Denver built the nearly 17-foot-tall Stars ‘N’ Stripes – one of the largest rockets to launch in the state of Colorado. The sport rocket will accelerate from 0-300 miles per hour in 5 seconds and reach an altitude of 4,700 feet above ground. ULA is the nation’s rocket company – its Atlas and Delta rockets have supported America’s presence in space for more than 50 years and continue to deliver critical payloads that further technology, exploration and the national defense.  As for the UAV (Unmanned aerial vehicle) demos Event Chairman, Jim Cimiluca states, “We are speaking to two manufacturers that represent a full range of  UAV sizes and types.”  Look for more information soon!

In keeping with our history of showcasing our military forces, the Rocky Mountain Airshow is proud to announce it will be celebrating the 90th anniversary of Colorado National Guard aviation.  The 120th Observation Squadron of the Colorado National Guard stood up in 1923.  While we cannot release the extent of our celebration of this landmark occasion just yet…you know it will be BIG!  The Rocky Mountain Airshow is proud to highlight and support all of our military services throughout our three day festival of aviation.

The Rocky Mountain Airshow features not only the best in astounding aerial performances, but everything from Hot Air Balloons and now to Rockets!  Unique to our show, the Adventure Zone/Space Pavilion with aviation focused STEM programs returns, along with the 34th annual Rocky Mountain Regional Fly In. The Rocky Mountain BalloonFest in conjunction with the Air Show, blasts the skies with a myriad of colors in a Friday night glow and morning sunrise launches. The Rocky Mountain Airshow, the premier air show along Colorado’s Front Range, shows off non-stop entertainment in the air and on the ground providing an Aviation Adventure that impacts all the senses and has something for all ages and walks of life!

“We will be bringing some of the most sought after aerobatic performers to Denver this year,” stated Scott McMillan, Airshow Director. Some of our performers at this time include FIFI, Matt Younkin, Greg Shelton and Ashley Battles, Bob Carlton, Trojan Phlyers Demo Team, Matt Tanner, Don Nelson, Rocketbilly Jet Car and Truck, Red Stars, Rocky Mountain Renegades and the Warbird Parade.  Cimiluca states, “We work hard year 'round to bring the best aviation experience possible to our great fans. This year will feature the easiest access, rarest performances and some great surprises you won't see anywhere else.”
