Attorney Eric M. Matheny Successfully Defends Client’s Felony Charges

MIAMI - June 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Eric M. Matheny’s client was arrested and charged with multiple counts of drug trafficking. One charge alone was a count of trafficking over 400 grams of ecstasy. Another count was of trafficking in 200 to 400 grams of ecstasy. The client also faced a charge for attempting to sell ecstasy to an undercover police officer on two separate occasions. For these charges, the client was looking at a minimum prison sentence of 15 years and a $250,000 fine. The sentence could turn into as much as a sixty years imprisonment. The client was held in jail with bond placed at $100,000.

At this point, Eric M. Matheny was hired, and immediately he persuaded the judge to change the bond. With bond reduced, the client was able to leave custody. At the arraignment, the prosecutor filed two reduced charges, one of possession of more than 10 grams of ecstasy with intent to sell, and another charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. Although charges were substantially lessened, the client still was facing first degree felony charges that could lead to a prison sentence of as much as 38 months to 35 years.

In the ensuing months, Eric M. Matheny continued to take depositions of the officers involved and to build his client’s case. The end result was that Matheny successfully worked toward a probation plea, saving his client from serving any jail time for his sentence. While the client initially faced a minimum of 15 years in prison, not only did Matheny successfully defend his client from potentially decades of imprisonment, but he kept his client from being sentenced to spend even one day in jail.
