Golazo! Four thousand top youth soccer players descend on NJ for U.S. Youth Soccer tournament

More than 200 highly talented boys’ and girls’ soccer teams representing 12 northeastern states will compete in Mercer County on June 7-9 at the Region 1 Olympic Development Program (ODP) youth soccer tournament.

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - June 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Established in 1977 by U.S. Youth Soccer, the ODP program identifies youth players of the highest caliber from ages 12 to 17. National coaches will be on hand to identify the top-tier players for even higher levels of regional, national and international competition. Last year, Region 1 Teams traveled to Russia and South America.

“We will be hosting the most talented young players from the east coast during an exciting weekend of soccer here in New Jersey,” says Joe Robb, Region 1 ODP tournament director. “Every year, this tournament also draws more than 200 college soccer coaches who come to scout for future talent.”

The New Jersey Youth Soccer Association (NJYSA) is sending 16 teams to compete with players representing Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia. Round-robin matches will be held in Mercer County at Mercer County Park, Rider University and public fields in Lawrenceville.
