Pair a Cookie with Dad's Favorite Drink

NEW YORK - June 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Surprise your dad with this awesome DIY present.  Bake a cookie to match his favorite drink.  It's a gift to remember. We're not talking milk and oatmeal-raisin here.

We're speaking about savory  "cocktail cookies" and  sophisticated, satisfyingly sweet ones, too.   The delight is in the taste of the cookies.

The bonus is that these cookies are  easy to make, even if the closest you've come to baking cookies before is slicing a roll of readymade cookie-dough and popping the discs into an oven.

If your father  drinks scotch, bake him Cheers, a happy concoction of  rum,  almond, orange and raisin.

The recipe for Cheers and the other original man-cookies mentioned here hail from COOKIES for GROWN-UPS (Red Rock Press) by Kelly Cooper.   "I look at what a guy likes to drink, then ask him about his favorite food flavors," says California/Nevada  cookie-inventor  Kelly Cooper "and start from there."

If on a hot June day, your father prefers an icy cold light beer,  Kelly's new book has a raft of cookie ideas for him,  including Pesto, Antipasto  and the unforgettable Cookie Bomb.

If stout's his drink, there's Unexpected which marries hazelnut-chocolate to roasted red pepper and paprika.  If he's a margarita man, bake him Refrescante, a cornmeal-base cookie incorporating cheeses and jalapeno.

For the high-octane coffee drinker,  there are many choices, including the aptly-named Tribute which is carrot cake with a twist, in cookie-form.

COOKIES FOR GROWN-UPS  includes scores of cookies that pair with wines, red or white, dry or sweet.   Of course,  women dig its cookies, too.    But Father's Day is soon here and  the  pop who rocks  deserves a cookie crafted for him.  "Go with it," advises Ms. Cooper.    "Nothing says 'I love you' better than a special cookie."

EDITOR:   Recipes for any cookie mentioned are available but please use no more than three.  High-resolution photos of the book cover and any cookie mentioned are also available
