Disability Pride Philadelphia is Taking over Franklin Square

Disability Pride celebrations are springing up in major cities across the world and now Philadelphia is one of the cities recognizing the important contribution that people with disabilities make to the city.

PHILADELPHIA - June 4, 2013 - PRLog -- The Second Annual Disability Pride Philadelphia is taking place on June 22, 2013. Last year the event attracted over 2,200 people as well as artists and performances from all over the country.

This year, Disability Pride Philadelphia is kicking off at the Liberty Bell at 10:30 am on June 22nd with speeches from leaders within the disabilities community. The hundreds of people with disabilities and their families and friends participating in the parade are unified with one message: "It’s OK to be who you are and Philadelphia should be proud of it’s citizens with disabilities". The participants will march together from Liberty Bell to Franklin Square Park for a day filled with art, exhibits, performances, and education for young and old. Political leaders such as Representative Murt and Councilman O’Brien will also be joining the event.

Disability Pride organizer, Johnny Crescendo, says “It’s important that people with disabilities are proud of who they are and events like Disability Pride Philadelphia gives them a platform to share their pride with the public. It is also a chance for people with all different disabilities to get together and celebrate; this is an event for everyone, young old, disability, no disability. This event is about getting people together.”

Kick Off: Liberty Bell at 10:30am

Event: Franklin Square Park at 12pm – 3pm
