PositivelyGospel.com Launches Black Music Month 'Rising Gospel Artists Series'

WASHINGTON - June 2, 2013 - PRLog -- In recognition of Black Music Month, PositivelyGospel.com, the popular gospel music news website, will launch a series that puts the spotlight on up and coming independent gospel artists. The "Rising Gospel Artists Series" will begin Tuesday, June 4 and feature a different artist or group each Tuesday and Thursday during the month of June.

Black Music Month was created in 1979 and was the result of a collaboration between songwriter and producer Kenneth Gamble, of Gamble and Huff, and broadcasters Ed Wright and Dyana Williams. They lobbied then-President Jimmy Carter to make it a reality.

“Black Music Month encompasses all genres of music. Gospel music plays such a pivotal role in church and society in general, it seemed only natural that PositivelyGospel.com should let readers know about some of the artists who, in my opinion, have the potential to rise in the industry,” said Sarah Hearn, CEO/Editor-in-Chief of PositivelyGospel.com.

Tuesdays will be dedicated to artists across the country, while Thursdays will focus on artists from the Washington, DC, Maryland and VA (DMV) area. Hearn thinks she’s found just the right combination.

“We'll take a look at singer-songwriters, groups and a few who have just entered the scene. One singer-songwriter has been around for a while, but hasn’t gotten as much national exposure. There’s also a young man who may be in line to be the next break-out teen artist like Jekalyn Carr.” Carr debuted #3 last week on Billboard.
