Random Act of Kindness

At The Good Feet Store

Sparks Deep Emotions

         Fresno, CA
…People talk of everyday heroes, we hear news reports showing people reaching out to complete strangers and our hearts are touched.  But, when it happens right before your eyes and you are party to the kindness and caring being extended to a complete stranger, it sparks emotions that will be part of you forever.   And, so it happened late Saturday afternoon, just before closing, at The Good Feet Store in Merced.

“I was working with a woman who had come in to see what we had, and while I was with her a homeless man walked in,” recalls Melissa Chavoya, Manager of the Good Feet Store in Merced.  “He was limping so badly and his shoes were so worn out, it was unbelievable.  He had a knot on the bottom of one foot that he had wrapped to try to protect it, from being kicked at night, and the other was badly swollen.   I greeted him and he began to tell me everything wrong with him.  Almost immediately the woman I had been working with came over and we both talked with him.  Suddenly, she tells me, ‘Find him a shoe that will fit that swollen foot and get him a pair of diabetic socks, I’ll pay for it’.”

“It took me a while, but I found a shoe that fit and would be good for him.  He was so appreciative, and kept thanking us for just taking the time to listen to him.  I processed the sale and before we knew it the woman was out the door and pulling out of the parking lot,” noted Chavoya.  “The gentleman looked at me and said, ‘I didn’t get to thank her’. I packed up his stuff and helped him out the door and watched him walk down the street in his new shoes, with tears in my eyes.”

“A woman walked into a store shopping for herself, but ended up spending her money and time to help a complete stranger,” commented Larry Schneider, owner of Central California Good Feet.  At a time when we are bombarded with all the negative things happening around the world, it’s random acts of kindness – such as that exhibited on Saturday at The Good Feet Store in Merced - that bring us together and strengthen our communities.  “I don’t know if this gal realizes just how much of an impact her $130 purchase has had on me, my staff and most certainly the gentleman she helped.  Good deeds should go rewarded and we have matched her purchase with a Gift Card,” noted Schneider.   To the woman at the Good Feet Store on Saturday, thank you for your selflessness and for reminding us what it truly means to help those around us.

Founded in 2001, Central California Good Feet provides personally-fit arch supports, as well as an exclusive collection of comfort and diabetic shoes.  A member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Central California Good Feet operates a store in Fresno and Merced, California.   For more information about the Good Feet store, click www.centralcaliforniagoodfeet.com or call 1-866-224-3338.
