Friends Board Also Names Elaine J. Wold as Lifetime Honorary Member

(Boca Raton, FL – May 30, 2013) Lynn University Friends of the Conservatory of Music, a volunteer organization that raises funds to promote high quality performance education for exceptionally talented young musicians, has elected four new members to its board of directors for the 2013-2014 academic year: Kathy Dickenson, Barbara Gutin, Karen Krumholtz and Susan Urso.

+ Kathy Dickenson, a Boca Raton resident, was appointed by two governors to serve on the Florida Arts Council since 2008. She was named the 2001 Boca Raton Historical Society’s Volunteer of the Year, and has served on the boards of the Children’s Museum at Singing Pines, Historic Palm Beach County Preservation Board and the Boca Raton Historical Society. She was appointed vice chair of the St. Augustine 450th Celebration Committee. She was a sponsor of last year’s annual Friends fundraiser, the Gingerbread Holiday Concert.

+ Barbara Gutin of Boca Raton is the 2013 sponsor of Lynn Philharmonia’s Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club outreach concert. She served on the founders board of the Portsmouth Music Hall in New Hampshire. She and husband Irving are trustees for the Irving and Barbara C. Gutin Charitable Foundation. They support the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, Mass., and the Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

+ Karen Krumholz is a lifelong resident of Boca Raton. She is the executive director of Spirit of Giving Network, a nonprofit serving southern Palm Beach County. She has 20 years of business experience, from marketing to fundraising. The Krumholtz Family Foundation is a sponsor of the upcoming Gingerbread Holiday Concert on December 8, at the Boca Raton Resort & Club.

+ Susan Urso resides in Sea Ranch Lakes, Fla. She and husband Charles own Marble of the World in Ft. Lauderdale and donated all the marble used for the Lynn campus’ Remembrance Plaza. Parents of a current Lynn student, the Ursos attend numerous university events and are members of the Leadership Society.

The Friends of the Conservatory also announces that Elaine J. Wold has been named a lifetime honorary board member.

At a recent board meeting, Lynn University President Kevin M. Ross presented Mrs. Wold with a framed poster of the final presidential debate signed by moderator Bob Schieffer, CBS News journalist. Without Mrs. Wold’s lead gift to construct the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center, Lynn University would not have been able to host the debate as well as noted speakers and entertainers.

Established in 2003, the Friends of the Conservatory has raised significant funds for annual and endowed student scholarships through membership dues and special events such as community outreach concerts and the annual Gingerbread Holiday Concert. This year’s Gingerbread Concert is set for 3 p.m., Sunday, December 8, in the Boca Raton Resort & Club’s Great Hall.

Thanks to the Friends generous support, the conservatory offers the community more than 100 concerts, performances and recitals each year that showcase the talented young musicians and world-renowned artist-faculty.

One of the leading conservatories within a university environment, the Lynn Conservatory of Music admits a highly select group of gifted musicians from around the world to pursue rigorous solo, chamber and orchestral training, as well as a carefully crafted academic program of study that leads to the Bachelor of Music, Master of Music or Professional Performance Certificate. The distinguished faculty brings a wealth of experience and expertise to students who consistently earn the highest honors at international competitions and join leading orchestras and prominent faculties around the globe.
