Industry Leaders Barry Libman & Kelly McLendon to Speak on HIM & HIPAA Changes at MeHIMA Conference

BEDFORD, Mass. - May 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Industry leaders Barry Libman, MS, RHIA, CDIP, CCS, CCS-P, founder of Libman Education, and Kelly McLendon, managing partner of CompliancePro Solutions™, are slated to speak on important topics affecting HIM and HIPAA changes at this year’s Maine Health Information Management Association (MeHIMA) Annual Conference, June 3-4 at the Holiday Inn By the Bay in Portland, ME.

Barry Libman’s topic, “Coding Clinic Update” (June 3 at 10:15 a.m./session 1), offers an in-depth group discussion of coding changes and clarifications from recent issues of Coding Clinic, as well as selected complex coding issues. The session is an opportunity to get up to date and fully understand how these coding rules affect one’s facility. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions and ideas.

Kelly McLendon’s first topic, “Overview of the New Omnibus Privacy Final Rules” (June 3 at 10:15 a.m./session 2), discusses the following: overview of the new rules, major modifications to the rules, breach, enforcement, business associate and sub-contractors impacts, and other areas of change. McLendon’s second topic, “The Legal Health Record” (June 4 at 10:15 a.m./session 2), offers an in-depth look at the rules and regulations governing the legal health record by an industry leader.

Barry Libman is recognized for his in-depth knowledge of coding and reimbursement issues. An AHIMA-certified ICD-10 trainer, Libman is often called upon to provide education and training on code updates and coding issues. Prior to forming Libman Education in 2013 and Barry Libman Inc. in 1998, Libman held a number of positions in the health information management field, working for hospitals, insurers, consulting firms, and regulatory bodies.

A graduate of Northeastern University with a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Simmons College, Libman received the Professional Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Health Information Management Association (MaHIMA).  He served on the MaHIMA Board of Directors and as a representative to the House of Delegates held at the AHIMA national conference.

Kelly McLendon is a well-known consultant and industry expert in patient privacy and security, with specific subject matter expertise in the areas of privacy incident, detection and automation. He is also an industry expert in legal health records, HIM operations, electronic document management and EHR project planning.

McLendon is a frequent industry speaker and authored a new book for AHIMA entitled “The Legal Health Record: Regulations, Policies and Guidelines.” He received the FHIMA Distinguished Member Award in 2008 and the AHIMA Visionary Award in 2003. He is co-founder and managing partner of CompliancePro Solutions, has held senior management positions at Eclipsys and MedPlus, and founded the consulting firm, Health Information Xperts. McLendon performs several Legal Health Record and ARRA/HITECH Seminars with attorney Mike Lowe each year.

McLendon is also author of Libman Education's HIPAA Privacy and Security Training courses.
