By: VoiceAmerica Retired Colonel Jill Morgenthaler and Dr. Patricia O’Gorman are featured on next Thursday’s episode of Deanne DeMarco’s fast-paced high-energy program, “Today’s Inspiring Women.” (http://www.todaysinspiringwomen.com/) Colonel Morgenthaler is a woman of many firsts. She was one of the first women to enter ROTC and train as an equal with men. She was the first woman battalion commander in the 88th Regional Support Command; she was the first woman brigade commander in the 84th Division; and she was the first woman Homeland Security Advisor for the State of Illinois. Colonel Jill handled disaster recovery during the San Francisco earthquake, worked as a peacekeeper in Bosnia, and helped sheltered Kosovar refugees. In Iraq, she ran the strategic communications for the international forces and on one memorable occasion stared down a hostile Saddam Hussein. For her performance in Iraqi 2004, she received the Bronze Star. Upon retirement, the Army awarded her the Legion of Merit. Deanne DeMarco, who has 20 successful years as a career coach, speech coach (http://www.breaking- Deanne DeMarco’s second guest is noted psychologist and author Dr. Patricia O’Gorman whose latest book “The Resilient Woman: Mastering the 7 Steps to Personal Power” was recently published by Health Communications, Inc., the publisher best known for the original “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series and other New York Times bestsellers. Dr. O’Gorman was one of the first researchers in children of alcoholics in the 1970’s and created the Department of Prevention and Education for the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. She went on to direct the Division of Prevention for the National Institute for Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. She is a co-founder of the National Association for Children of Alcoholics. She is a veteran of numerous television appearances including Good Morning America, Today, and AM Sunday. Through the development of the concept of self-sabotaging, self-limiting “girly thoughts,” Dr. O’Gorman brings to the subject of women building resilience in the face of hardship, the same type of seminal thinking that helped create the Children of Alcoholics Movement. In her book she provides an in-depth self-evaluation assessment any woman can use to identify her personal strengths, weaknesses, and resilience style. Deanne DeMarco said, “Among the questions I have for Dr. Pat: ‘Why should women strive to be like Katniss Everdeen in ‘The Hunger Games’ or Beatrix Kiddo in ‘Kill Bill?’ What compels women to harshly judge other women? Why do only two percent of the world’s women believe they are beautiful? How can women learn to be more resilient?” Deanne DeMarco herself has used her innovative strategies—drawn from successful experiences as a scientist, college instructor, management trainer, Fortune 500 manager, author and entrepreneur— “Today’s Inspiring Women” airs Thursdays at noon Pacific / 2 PM Central / 3PM Eastern on the VoiceAmerica Empowerment Channel Radio.
