Upper Arm Lift is the Fastest Growing Plastic Surgery Operation

This increasingly popular operation saw a jump of 4,378 percent between 2000 and 2012.

BOULDER, Colo. - May 29, 2013 - PRLog -- The upper arm lift is not even close to becoming one of the most popular plastic surgery operations, but it has gained attention for its rapid rise over the last twelve years. In 2000, only 300 of these surgeries were performed, but 2012 saw over 15,000 of these procedures performed. To put this news in perspective, more than 286,000 breast augmentations were performed in 2012, but that operation only saw a 35% increase in the same period.

The reasons for this incredible shift are not entirely clear. One factor may be the recent popularity of celebrities and other prominent figures like Michelle Obama who have particularly well-toned upper arms. While women such as the First Lady have achieved this look with regular exercise, the problem for many women is not a lack of muscle or an excess of fat, but rather an excess of skin. This points to the second probable factor in the growing popularity of upper arm lifts: women losing weight due to other plastic surgery operations such as tummy tucks, as well as diet and exercise. The drastic drop in weight that many women experience due to surgery and changing habits takes care of the problem of fat, but can leave behind unwanted skin, which is difficult to remedy even with exercise.

This surgery can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $11,000, but usually costs between $6,000 and $8,000. The operation, like most surgeries, comes with the risks associated with going under anesthesia, but is a relatively simple procedure. The surgery, which most commonly involves a combination of liposuction and brachioplasty, also leaves behind a scar on the upper arm stretching from the elbow to the armpit. But this consequence does not seem to have slowed the rise of the upper arm lift, as a scar is usually much less noticeable than excess skin.

Boulder Plastic Surgery does not yet offer this still relatively uncommon procedure, but operations such as facial rejuvenation, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, liposuction, and Botox are all available. Women and men interested in plastic surgery can schedule a consultation online at the Boulder Plastic Surgery website.
