National Writing Contest Winners

Financial Literacy News a national online financial education publication is proud to announce the winners of the national Financial Literacy Month Writing Contest held in April for elementary, middle and high school students. Student participants were asked to create a poem, a narrative, or write an essay of 500 words or less that answered the question: “Why is it important to get a good financial education?  Approximately 2,300 students from around the United States of America participated in the contest.  Only one piece of writing from each participating student was allowed to be submitted.  The writing contest was sponsored by one of the nation’s leading financial education companies, Future Investor Clubs of America, Inc., located in Orlando, Florida.

First place winner and eighth grader, Nicolas Isaza who attends Maumee Valley Country Day School, located in Ottawa Hills, Ohio, had this to say about the importance of good financial education; “I believe that students should have a reputable financial education, because it prepares them for their life ahead and creates less obstacles in their pathway to financial success.”  Second place winner and sixth grader, Amy Schlosser who attends Avon Park Middle School located in Avon Park, Florida felt that; “financial education is looked upon as unimportant to most people.  You need a good financial education to balance a check book, to own a small business and even a big business.” Finally third place winner and fourth grader, Hannah Coates, who attends South Ocala Elementary School, located in Ocala, Florida wrote that; “You also need a good financial education, because you need to know how to handle your money if you are writing a check, you cannot write a check for more money than you have in the bank.”  Below are the national contest winners.
