Bringing Pompeii to life in the centre of London

LONDON - May 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Having long been some of Western Europe's most visited Archeological site's, Pompeii and Herculneum have seen a new lease of life thanks to the 6-month long exhibition in the British Museum (http://www.britishmuseum.org/whats_on/exhibitions/pompeii_and_herculaneum.aspx).

These two entire Roman Cities were ruined in just 24 hours by the violent explosion of Mount Vesuvius, in the foothills of which the town was situated, and around 20 miles from the Southern Italian town of Naples.

Residents, reluctant to evacuate their homes, were trapped and killed by the heavy ash fall, not to be found until workers in 1738 excavated the 12 layers of topha which was up to 25 metres at its deepest.

Taken from their home in Naples' National Archaeological Museum (http://cir.campania.beniculturali.it/museoarcheologiconazionale?set_language=en), which some of the 250 or so pieces have never left, the collection will now take part in an interactive and fascinating exhibition in one of London's most prestigious museums, focusing on the lives and lifestyles of the people living in these amazing places.

Tickets are available to buy from the British Museum website.
