SALT LAKE CITY - May 28, 2013 - PRLog -- On Thursday, May 30, The Conservation Alliance and member companies Black Diamond, Petzl, Gregory, PRO BAR, Backcountry.com, Salomon, Suunto, Atomic and 3point5.com will be working to clean up several recreation sites in the Salt Lake City area.

The volunteer effort is led by The Conservation Alliance, with support from Salt Lake Climbers Alliance, Save Our Canyons, the United States Forest Service and Cottonwood Canyons Foundation. The cross-organizational event, known as the Backyard Collective, brings together Conservation Alliance member companies and their employees for a day of collective action.

“We are pleased so many companies will be coming together with the goal of protecting and preserving the local trails in and around Salt Lake,” said John Sterling, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance.

The Salt Lake City Backyard Collective takes place May 30, 2013 from 12:45 p.m. –
6:00 p.m. The team will work on a variety of projects, including: trail maintenance and construction of retaining walls at Ferguson Canyon as well as invasive species removal at Lower Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Following the workday, a volunteer fair at Black Diamond will bring together Conservation Alliance grantees and local environmental organizations. This fair will provide an opportunity for all to discuss current conservation initiatives and share ways for individuals to get involved.

“This event is a great opportunity to both give back to our popular recreation areas, and also to provide a venue for those interested in local conservation issues to get together and exchange ideas,” said Nathan Kuder, Black Diamond Category Director. “All of us at Black Diamond are excited to be a part of it.”

The Backyard Collective conservation effort in Salt Lake City is the third of eight nationwide events planned for 2013. The other cities include: Bend, Ore. (June 25); Seattle (July 12); Portland, Ore. (August 21); Boston (September 25); and Boulder (October 4). This is the fifth year of Backyard Collectives for the Conservation Alliance and their members, grantees and partners.
