Golden Chick brings Texas Legend to Fuel La Vernia Economy

Allen Tharp, who has been a minority partner of the Golden Franchising Corporation for four years, saw the need to introduce La Vernia, just 35 miles east of San Antonio, to the world’s best chicken.

“The southern, home-style food and the family friendly values of Golden Chick are always welcome in small towns like La Vernia,” said Allen Tharp, owner of Allen Tharp LLC and The Lion and Rose Restaurant and Pub. “Golden Chick locations have thrived in south central Texas, so we thought the up-and-coming town of La Vernia would be a perfect fit for us.”

The quaint town of La Vernia is a hot spot for economic growth, and Golden Chick is at the forefront of the flourishing community.

“We secured an excellent location in the heart of the town, right next to the local Walmart, which will help drive business to Golden Chick,” Tharp said. “Since we started construction, many other restaurants have started building, making the area a prime spot for business.”

The La Vernia location was built from the ground up, refining the relaxed and inviting feel of the restaurant, which future Golden Chicks will use. The 50-year-old chain has grown into a more casual dining experience rather than quick service.

The new location will help fuel the local economy with approximately 35 part-time jobs and full-time managerial roles.

Menu choices include Original Golden Tenders™ and Golden Roast Chicken, with catfish and salad meals for a healthier option. Sides include crisp battered French fries, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn on the cob, fried okra, dirty rice, mac and cheese and cole slaw.

Extras include jalapeno poppers, corn nuggets, gourmet chicken salad, or the restaurant’s famous yeast rolls. Additionally, dine in guests are treated to a soft serve vanilla ice cream cone, a Golden Chick tradition.
