CONCORD, N.H. - May 28, 2013 - PRLog -- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, an industry leader in vehicle safety testing, has named the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander as a “Top Safety Pick+.” This honor highlights the 5-seater Outlander Sport as a great selection for families who are looking for a safe, well-equipped crossover vehicle. Thanks to its continued recognition for safety, as well as its performance and comfortable interior, the 2013 Outlander Sport remains a popular choice at Lovering Mitsubishi in Concord (http://www.loveringmitsubishi.com/new-inventory/index.htm).

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (http://www.iihs.org/ratings/ratingsbyseries.aspx?id=716), a non-profit vehicle safety research organization, rates vehicles on how they perform on a “good” to “poor” scale. To qualify for a “Top Safety Pick+” award, a vehicle must earn “good” ratings for occupant protection in four out of the five tests, and no less than an “acceptable” rating in the fifth test.

These high safety ratings are a result of the Mitsubishi's Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution body construction, or RISE. Mitsubishi's own patented safety system is engineered with energy-absorbing crumple zones and reinforced structural components that work to redirect crash energy away from the cabin.

The Outlander Sport also performed well in the IIHS' new, small front overlap test. Added just last year, the test involves a collision at 40mph with only 25% percent of the front of the vehicle.  The test simulates possible scenarios such as: striking a pole, a corner of a structure, or another vehicle. Many vehicles are not able to keep occupants safe in such a crash. The Outlander Sport's performance in the small front overlap test proves once again that it is a strong choice for safety conscientious families.

Mitsubishi has also equipped the Outlander Sport with a full range of active safety features that help to keep families out of harm’s way. These include:

    •      Active stability control

    •      Traction Control Logic

    •      Anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution

    •      Tire pressure monitoring system
