Follow on Google News | Grass Roots Movement To Help Local Disabled Senior Stay In Her Home.McGrath MN community leader Deb Nass is propelling a grass roots effort to help Vie Borg, a local disabled woman, save her home and business. Recently, long time resident Vie Borg has lost the ability to run her business due to health issues.
Vie Borg, is a long time McGrath resident, having been here for over 52 years. Recently she has lost the ability to cook, which means the Tavern she has operated for many years is unable to stay open for business. Vie is also at risk of losing her home since both her business and home share the same building. McGrath is a small community of 79 with an extended population of approximately 300. Located just 18 minutes from the resort area of Mille Lac Lakes, this small rural town struggles to survive in the current economy. There is now an effort under way to change the Tavern into a much needed grocery store and Artisan/Farmers market for the community. As this is a small community there is no major grocery store locally. At this time Lil Market is operating in the grounds surrounding the building. Income for the business and to keep Vie in her home has had limited success since the beginning of the Lil Market last summer. This year being the second year it will be more organized and have more activities to bring in the visitors from the resorts in the area. Hoping to attract the resort visitors from the Mille Lac Lakes area, the Lil Market will be hosting a series of workshops on the weekends. In a recent conversation Deb Nass advised “This Memorial weekend, we are going to start our workshops with the first one on how to make your own willow slide whistle. Future workshops will feature everything from making your own top-bar beehive to making your own jewelry and candles.” During the summer along with the locally grown fresh produce there will be many selections of crafts from local eclectic Artisans. You can find many fine examples of what is available online at http://www.lil- To make the changes needed to turn the Tavern into a grocery or market for residents, and also comply with local building codes a substantial amount of money needs to be raised. Of course making the changes will also keeping Vie in her home. The dollar figure for the repairs and changes to be made to meet local code are in excess of $10,000, money the community does not have currently. Lil Market is located at 15319 State Hwy 65, McGrath MN 56350. http://www.lil- https://www.facebook.com/ For more information about upcoming events and how you can help Contact Deb Nass at website_contact@ End
