Follow on Google News | Eye Centers of Florida hosts workshop June 12 in Fort Myers, FL on DNA test for macula degenerationClaudio A. Ferreira, M.D. and Karen Memoli, O.D. of Eye Centers of Florida will present a workshop June 12 on a DNA test to help in the early identification of genes in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) that can lead to vision loss
By: Dolan Marketing Services, Inc. The workshop is intended for individuals who have a diagnosis of early or intermediate AMD and their closely related family members who may also share the same risk factors. Because one in ten people may eventually lose vision from AMD in their lifetimes, Drs. Ferreira and Memoli want to help educate the public on the advantages of early diagnosis and treatment in helping to preserve and prolong eyesight. “We want to help those most at risk for vision loss from age-related macular degeneration (AMD) learn about the simple, cheek swab DNA test that can tell us if they have inherited any of the specific disease-causing genes,” said Eye Centers of Florida’s Medical Director and Founder, David C. Brown, M.D., F.A.C.S. “Early detection, diagnosis and treatment can be important factors in better visual outcomes, along with specific lifestyle changes.” There is no cost to attend the program, but space and reservations are limited. To register, please call (888) 531-8161. For further information about the Macula Risk® test and risks, go to www.ecof.com/ About Eye Centers of Florida David C.
