Local Minneapolis Blogger launches campaign to Boycott WCCO-TV, Channel 4

MINNEAPOLIS - May 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Donald Allen, local political activist, blogger, editor-in-chief of the online news agency The Independent Business News Network, affectionately known as www.OurBlackNews.com and the chairman of the ad-hoc group African Americans and Friends Against Mainstream Media has launched a very revealing campaign against Minnesota's "Inside The Box" television station WCCO-TV, a CBS affiliate in Minnesota.

Allen says, "Being ‘Inside The Box’ is a fair representation of WCCO-TV, cut off from the mainstream by creating their own custom mainstream makes it difficult to watch anything but ‘Wheel of Fortune’ on the CBS station. News and public discourse should be for all communities, not a partnership with left-leaning political organizations or city and state agencies to sanitize, homogenize and paralyze real issues in community reporting. The delivery of the news is also very important. WCCO-TV and its self-proclaimed shuffling that removed long-time African-American morning show anchor and community sweetheart Angela Davis was the last straw."

Allen talks about the story in the local Star Tribune newspaper "WCCO-TV Shuffles News Teams." The story states, "Angela Davis and Mike Binkley, who have co-hosted the AM and noon shows for five years, are being replaced by Jason DeRusha and Jamie Yuccas. The ‘Good Question’ segment that has become a trademark for DeRusha, will go to Heather Brown.”

Minnesota’s local news stations - with the exception of the Fox News affiliate KMSP-TV present a fundamental challenge in reporting on, and the delivery of different cultures due to their intentional presentations of “Minnesota Nice,” which in Minnesota happens to be a display of only one “type” of news anchor.

This is not the first time a Minnesota television station preferred a blonde to news integrity. In 1993 the NBC affiliate KARE-11 replaced morning news anchor Asha Blake with Kim Insley. This disappointed many viewers who KARE’D.

“I keep hoping that Twin Cities media will wake up and color the landscape; I keep being disappointed. In this situation, WCCO-TV thinks the White Savior Industrial Complex will help bring them ratings. They will have shocking news when the Neilson Ratings come out,” says Allen who attempted to call a meeting in January with Brien Kennedy - WCCO-TV Vice President & General Manager with no returned phone calls or emails.

Allen invites you to join him and others on Facebook by joining the boycott of WCCO-TV just to support integrity in news coverage.

The call to action is for television viewers across Minnesota to turn off the WCCO-TV, channel 4 Morning program and boycott the station (at your discretion) until the general manager meets with community members and local media stakeholders.

We also demand the return of Angela Davis to solid daily news position within WCCO-TV, channel 4.
