Vermont Academy Names New Head Hockey Coaches

Vermont Academy is pleased to welcome two new head coaches to their ice hockey program for the 2013-14 academic year.

SAXTONS RIVER, Vt. - May 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Taking over girls’ varsity coaching duties will be Lisa Wilson, a native of Corunna, Ontario. Wilson has spent the last two seasons serving as an assistant coach for the Castleton State Women’s Ice Hockey team while completing a masters degree in teaching.

In her first season at Castleton, the Spartans set program records for wins and conference victories. The team also won its first-ever ECAC East Tournament game and set a school-record for fewest goals allowed during a season.

Wilson came to Castleton from Holy Cross, where she was a four-year member and three-year captain of the Crusaders hockey team from 2006-2010. At Holy Cross, she appeared in 106 of a possible 107 games on defense over her career. Wilson amassed a 75-24-8 career record, including 44-6-3 mark over her final two seasons. She was a two-time first-team All-ECAC East selection and was selected to the second team as a junior and the Rookie Team as a freshman. In her senior year, Wilson led all Holy Cross defensemen in scoring with 27 points, including a team-high 20 assists. She finished her career with 33 goals and 49 assists for 82 points. She was twice named the Team MVP and as a senior awarded with the Holy Cross Reverend Francis Hart award for commitment leadership and performance.

Former St. Michael’s College head men’s hockey coach Chris Davidson will coach the Vermont Academy boys’ varsity team.  A St. Michael’s alum and team captain of the school’s 1999 Division II National Championship Team, Davidson directed the program as its head coach from 2007-2012 after multiple years spent as an assistant with the Purple Knights in the early 2000s.

In addition to his work at the collegiate level, Davidson has worked at various USA Hockey Select Regional Camps. Since 2002, Davidson has been a member of the Player Development and Select Coaching Staff for the New England District. In the summer of 2007, Davidson served as a coach for the USA Under-17 Select Festival in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. In April of 2007, Davidson was elected to the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Board of Governors.

A former forward for the Saint Michael's, Davidson was a four year letter-winner and voted captain of the 1998-99 team that captured the NCAA Division II National Championship by defeating New Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University). It is Saint Michael's only national championship in school history, and Davidson was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team for scoring a goal and an assist in the championship game. Davidson's playing career also extended to the Southern Professional Hockey League, as he played for both Macon (Ga.) and Pee Dee (S.C.).
