ST. GEORGE, Utah - May 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Recipient of “2007 Woman of the Year Award” presented to a woman in recovery every year in our community by Volunteers of America chosen by nomination of peers and providers in the community.Briefly homeless in 2002-2003. Couch surfing and sleeping in my car. Just long enough to educate me in what my future clients endure.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported in an article titled, Outreach volunteers help fight homelessness August 3, 20111: Every weekday, volunteers visit "hot spots" around the valley — parks, abandoned buildings, bus benches, certain street corners and offices of other service providers — in search of homeless individuals who spend their days, and often their nights, outside. In winter, the homeless combat the cold, snow and ice; in the summer, it's the heat, sun exposure, torrential rains and bugs. The volunteers check their well-being and offer water, food and other supplies.
"A lot of guys are asking for insect repellent because they are just getting chewed up at night," McCuaig said.
The most recent Point-in-Time County Survey, conducted by the state Division of Housing and Community Development in January found 14,351 people had been sporadically or consistently homeless during the previous year. The number includes 600 chronically homeless individuals. Utah is halfway through a 10-year plan to end chronic homelessness and so far, marks are high for efforts that have put people who once lived on the street into permanent housing. Many homeless Utahans have mental health or substance abuse issues that make it difficult to accept and stick with help.

Char's life is a course of miracles and as a result of the miracles that have happened in her life and recovery she made a choice to give back to the homeless community. She has done more than just give back she has paid it forward. She will share her story of Homelessness, and Hope and Recovery on the Been There Done That Show Saturday 5-25-13 6pm-7pm MST listen live at www.beentheredonethatshow.com We are the voice of Recovery and Change.
