RAPID CITY, S.D. - May 23, 2013 - PRLog -- RAPID CITY, S.D. – Black Hills Community Bank is proud to support the Rapid City Fire Department’s annual “Fill the Boot” campaign, which raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Local firefighters began participating in the “Fill the Boot” event on Wednesday, May 22, by filling their boots with cash collected at locations around Rapid City. The Rapid City campaign continues through Friday, May 24.

On Tuesday, May 21, a group of firefighters – along with South Dakota state Muscular Dystrophy Association representatives and families affected by muscular dystrophy – gathered at Rapid City’s Main Street Square to officially kick off this year’s campaign.

“Black Hills Community Bank believes the ‘Fill the Boot’ event is a remarkable community service. We are proud to help raise funds to support the firefighters and the Muscular Dystrophy Association,” said Black Hills Community Bank president Jack Lynass.

The International Association of Fire Fighters has been a national MDA partner for more than 50 years, remaining committed to the fight to end neuromuscular diseases. Over the past five years, Rapid City firefighters have raised more than $160,000 for local families through their “Fill the Boot” efforts. This year, the Rapid City Fire Department has set a goal of $40,000.

“Fill the Boot” funds are also used to support some of the 250 worldwide research projects seeking better treatments and cures for more than 40 neuromuscular diseases covered by MDA, including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Muscular Atrophy and ALS.

“The research that the firefighters help support gives hope to more than 500 families living in South Dakota affected by neuromuscular disease. That is truly exemplary!” said Lynass.
