NEWARK, N.J. - May 27, 2013 - PRLog -- New Jersey City University professor and Newark, NJ’s Award winning public speaker Dr. Ansley W. LaMar presented workshop "Difficult Discussions: The art and science of handling critical conversations" at the Toastmasters International District 83 Annual Spring Conference on Saturday, May 18 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Newark Airport, 128 Frontage Road in Newark, NJ.

During Ansley’s workshop, participants discovered how to have difficult discussions with less stress and more success. Every day you are presented with the possibility of a dreaded discussion. You may have to fire your employee, confront your neighbor or discipline your child. Or, on a more positive but equally stressful note, you may want to request a raise, negotiate a car deal, or ask your partner to marry you. In this workshop, you will learn tips and techniques that will help you handle your critical conversations more competently.

Conference Chair Margarita Estrada noted, “We were excited to have Ansley LaMar as one of our workshop presenters. Ansley was a very dynamic communicator who has always been interested in analyzing situations where conflict resolution is vital.  His highly interactive workshop: Dealing with Difficult Discussions, outlined ways to achieve mutually satisfying solutions – even in the most challenging situations, and explored how culture plays a vital role in conflict resolution.”

The annual three day event, sponsored by Toastmasters International District 83, had as its theme “Out Of Many Comes the Voice of Excellence!” The event conference featured keynote speaker award winning writer, Karin Price Mueller. Ms. Price Mueller was joined by the lineup of business and professional communication workshop leaders listed below.

Pamela Winter, DTM, Governor of District 83 said, “This year’s Spring Conference theme was personally important to me. It was a celebration of our diversity, with its particular strengths, quirks and traditions. We all come from someplace and to identify, embrace, share and acknowledge our roots creates a profound understanding and appreciation among those whose lives we touch. Toastmasters teaches us that with better communications skills we can be more comfortable and confident in our vastly different cultures allowing us to share and gain greater understanding and acceptance of others.”

Confirmed speakers and session topics include:

1.  Sylvie Nappey, ACB - "How Cultural Diversity Instills Creative Leadership"

2.  David Cragin, ACG, ALB - "Language Skills for Cross-Cultural Communication: How much do you need to know?"

3.  Ansley LaMar, ACS - "Difficult Discussions: The art and science of handling critical conversations."
