Military To Civilian Workforce Transitions Using The Internet

Economic Conditions and the Pace of Change Require Progressive Job Search Techniques

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - May 16, 2013 - PRLog -- TERRE HAUTE, IN.  Strong Performance Management, LLC, founded by Indiana University Kelley School of Business graduate, Tuesday Strong, is offering webinars at no charge for military professionals and veterans to assist with their transition from the military to the civilian workforce. The first in a four-part series, Personal Branding for Military Professionals and Veterans, is now available. We cover why personal branding matters to job seekers in this just released introductory webinar. Webinars can be accessed 24/7 at http://tuesdaystrong.com/webinars.

A recent article (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kiva-zip/helping-veterans-start-bu_b_3163712.html) from The Huffington Post suggests that service members continue to have difficulty finding employment -- more so than the average American. The article states, "While the national unemployment rate... hovers at 7.5 percent, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans... face a higher rate of unemployment at 10.8 percent. Overall, more than three quarters of a million veterans are currently unemployed, with an additional one million anticipated to leave service this year through 2017." Additionally, Prudential Financial partnered with the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America to conduct a survey, the Veterans’ Employment Challenges: Perceptions and experiences of transitioning from military to civilian life, polling 2,453 veterans and soon-to-be veterans in an online survey from December 12, 2011 through January 23, 2012. They discovered that one in five veterans is unemployed and 60% are challenged by explaining how their military skills translate to the civilian workforce. Support for military professionals and veterans can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate due to backlogs and registration requirements.  Competition for jobs is fierce and savvy job seekers are increasingly using the Internet to get noticed by recruiters as well as research opportunities and their competition.  Military professionals and veterans must be able to translate their military experience to civilian opportunities and use the Internet to compete with civilian job seekers who are proficient with advanced job search techniques.

After completing a personal branding program offered by the Indiana University Alumni Association, Tuesday began to provide professionals with a progressive approach to career management by focusing on talent development and personal branding, essentially marrying human resources and marketing principles. Having been a proponent of proactive professional development for nearly twenty years, the concept of personal branding came naturally to Tuesday and her blog, http://tuesdaystrong.com was the result.
