MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - May 16, 2013 - PRLog -- With a 5-Star Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2013 Honda Civic Sedan adds to its growing list of accolades, awards, and official recognitions. At Team Honda, a premier Honda dealership in Merrillville (http://www.teamhondaon30.com/page/about_us/en/), these top safety ratings are seen as just two more reasons for buyers to take a good look at the new Civic Sedan.

In fact, Honda has taken the lead among all automakers, with every one of their 2013 models tested to date earning either a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS. In addition, the Civic Sedan and the Civic Coupe are the first and only cars in their class to receive both the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation and a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). The 2013 Accord has recently received these same safety ratings in the midsize vehicle category.

To earn the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation, a vehicle is required to receive a “Good” rating on all standard tests, and “Acceptable” or better on the small frontal overlap test. The latter is a newly devised test that measures the results of a car’s front corner colliding with another vehicle or a stationary object such as a telephone pole. It is a very difficult test for a vehicle to pass.

The Civic Sedan has received significant design and engineering upgrades for 2013, including the next generation of Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, which is undoubtedly one of the reasons it scored so well on the narrow offset test.

Along with the ACE body structure, all 2013 Civic models come with some of the most advanced safety systems available, including anti-lock brakes, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and traction control, multiple-threshold front airbags, front side airbags for driver and passenger, and side curtain airbags.
Those interested should stop by Team Honda (http://www.teamhondaon30.com/page/hours/en/) to check out the 2013 Civic Sedan, as well as all of the other vehicles in the Honda lineup. The dealership is located at 4613 E Lincoln Highway in Merrillville, Indiana, just minutes from Valparaiso, Schererville, and Cedar Lake.
