A Plymouth Tradition Gets a ‘Face-lift’!

May 15, 2013 - PRLog -- - It’s a sure sign that summer is just around the corner when the Kiwanis Popcorn Wagon makes its appearance in Kellogg Park on the corner of Penniman and Main St. Since 1988, the Kiwanis Club of Plymouth (http://www.plymouthkiwanis.com/) has been selling fresh-popped popcorn, soft drinks and water out of its Popcorn Wagon. Music in the Park wouldn’t be complete without the delicious aroma of popcorn wafting through the crowd on a Thursday or Friday evening.

After 25 years in operation, the “old” popcorn wagon has been retired. In its place, the Kiwanians will debut a new and improved Popcorn Wagon, which, remarkably, has an even more authentic “old-time” feel to it! The wagon was constructed by the Miner Company, of Iowa, with the explicit intent of preserving the nostalgic feel that makes this Plymouth tradition so very special.

To acquire the new Popcorn Wagon, the Kiwanis Club of Plymouth enlisted the generous sponsorship of several local businesses, including:  BELFOR Disaster Recovery, Auto-Lab, Blackwell Ford, Greko Printing & Imaging, Monroe Bank & Trust, New York Life, Plymouth Dental Associates, RBD Creative, Remerica, Baldwin Landscape Group, Colonial Veterinary Clinic, Gold & Associates PC, Huron Valley Ambulance, Nowicki’s Plumbing, Penn Grill & Bar, Van Buren Electric Co., Vermeulen Funeral Home and Weldcraft. This project would not have been possible without the generous support of these companies and business owners.

The new Kiwanis Popcorn Wagon will be unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, May 24, at
4 p.m. in Kellogg Park. Local dignitaries, sponsors, club members and YOU are invited to attend.

Kiwanis is a service club comprised of civic-minded residents and business owners in our community. Its mission is to raise money for children’s charities on a local, state, national and international basis. Over the years, the Popcorn Wagon alone has raised more than $100,000 to fund everything from local scholarships to international initiatives to eliminate childhood diseases. The club meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday evenings of the month. Please see www.plymouthkiwanis.com for more information.
