New book The String Theory, By: Geoffrey T Hudson

CALABASAS, Calif. - May 15, 2013 - PRLog -- In the crowded thriller genre, it can be difficult to make a name for yourself.  However, with engaging characters and a thrilling, science-based plot, author Geoffrey T. Hudson is doing just that with his new novel, The String Theory.  Having muddled through science courses back in the day, I made sure to quickly brush up on string theory (it’s a framework in particle physics involving quantum mechanics and general relativity) to ensure I wouldn’t miss out on anything before diving into the book.  Thankfully, I found that knowledge unnecessary, as Hudson explains the science behind his plot in such a way that I could easily understand it.

The String Theory focuses on Adam James, a man trying to stay on the down-low who soon becomes the target of a major international and political plot backed by people who will do anything and everything to get their hands on him.  The action intensifies when James enlists the aid of physicist Miranda Winfield and the pair is forced to go public with a startling scientific discovery, causing all hell to break loose and forcing them to work together while on the run. Along the way, James and Winfield have to contend with a hired hit man who will stop at nothing to earn his pay, and a politician who is paid to make things happen regardless of the body count.

I enjoyed Hudson’s unassuming hero/protagonist, James, a genius in mechanic’s clothing, especially when James proved to be my favorite kind of hero—one flawed, and with many secrets, including his little quirk with gravity.  I was pleasantly surprised that Hudson crafted a heroine/protagonist (Winfield) interesting in her own right and with her own story to tell.  As heroes go, the brilliant, attractive, funny, and mysterious James paired well with the smart and beautiful Winfield.   I found the dash of romance included in the plot a welcome diversion from the intensity of the main storyline.  In addition, Hudson’s entertaining and well-drawn secondary characters helped provide colorful back story while moving the plot along at breakneck speed. (I sincerely hope Henry and his wife are revisited in the sequel!)

I am by no means a science buff, but that didn’t stop me from being completely immersed in this captivating story.  The String Theory is a quick, fun, thrilling read I found hard to put down. Hudson’s debut novel is a well plotted, character driven scientific thriller with a dash of humor and romance, with just enough scientific foundation to make major plot points credible, at least render them highly plausible.  Fans of thrillers or science fiction authors James Patterson, Dean Koontz and Harlan Coben should look to Geoffrey T. Hudson as a new voice with a compelling story to tell in The String Theory, as well as join me in rejoicing in the fact that Hudson is currently hard at work on a sequel.
