DUBAI, UAE - May 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Dubai, United Arab Emirates – More than 50 trade and logistics professionals received their Certified Trade & Logistics Professional (CTLP) certificates last week after successfully completing the popular, hands-on programme developed and run for the third year by Dubai Trade, the leading facilitator of trade across borders under Dubai World. Dubai Trade also announced that its award-winning programme is undergoing further enhancement to account for the latest development in the global shipping industry.

The Certified Trade & Logistics Professional programme was developed by Dubai Trade in partnership with Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT), and it is the only comprehensive vocational training programme that covers the end-to-end process of import and export in the UAE and the region. It aims to create professionals who are knowledgeable in trade policies and supply chain processes internationally as well as specifically within the UAE.

The 3rd CTLP Graduation Ceremony, which was held at Emirates Aviation College in Dubai, was attended by a host of senior officials including Eng. Mahmood Al Bastaki, CEO of Dubai Trade, Shankar Subramoniam, CILT Board Member, and André N. Verdier, CILT Advisor  and Chief Executive Officer, Innova Supply Chain, in addition to graduates from Customs and DP World.

In an opening speech, Al Bastaki said: “For the third consecutive year, we are proud to congratulate a group of young professionals from the supply chain sector and the wider trading community in the UAE who seek to raise their practical skills and knowledge to the CTLP level in order to streamline their companies’ electronic trading processes as well as advance their careers.”

“We have had a very rewarding journey since we launched the CTLP programme in its first edition (Level 2) in 2011 to complement our broad mission of facilitating trade across border with the training of the trading community on the latest processes and concepts, best practices and industry standards. The programme has received excellent feedback as we continue to research and improve it,” he added.

“Today, we are happy to announce that Dubai Trade has almost completed the development of the CTLP Level 3, which will be an upgraded version of our recent CTLP Level 2. The new version, which will be launched soon, will put more focus and add topics to the Airfreight and Land Transportation components of the programme, and enhance the Supply Chain component. Based on research, trading community feedback and best practices, we have also included more case studies, scenarios, assignment and quizzes,” concluded Al Bastaki.

Al Bastaki, however, noted that recent candidates who passed the CTLP Level 2 could join a short course to fill the gap and upgrade their certification to Level 3. Dubai Trade also announced that a new certification programme for Certified Customs Broker is under development.

In his welcoming speech, Shankar Subramoniam CILT Board Member, said: “Dubai Trade has been instrumental in disseminating the global industry standards promoted by the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport. The strong demand for CTLP programme ensures that the dynamic trading community in the UAE will keep up its competitiveness and contribute to the country’s position as a hub in the global supply chain.”

Since its launch, more than 500 professionals from the trading community have graduated from the CTLP programme, which this year received additional recognition and accolades. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has recently accredited Dubai Trade Training Centre, and it is scheduled to attest the new CTLP Level 3 programme.

On April this year, Dubai Trade won ITP’s Supply Chain and Transport Awards (SCATA) 2013 in the Training & Education Provider of the Year category. The prestigious award was won in stiff competition from three other shortlisted candidates; Bahrain Polytechnic, Heriot-Watt University and the University of Wollongong Dubai. Prior awards received by Dubai Trade for its training programmes included the “Best Training Initiative of The Year 2011” by Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transportation.

The CTLP programme covers seven modules, ranging from the ‘Fundamentals of Importing and Exporting’ to ‘Multi-Modal Transportation, Transhipment and Chartering’, ‘Freight Forwarding, Logistics and Supply Chain’ and ‘Dubai Customs and DP World e-Services.’ It is given around the year over a period of one to two weeks.
