Spokane’s Historic Montvale Undergoes Significant Changes

SPOKANE, Wash. - May 14, 2013 - PRLog -- The hospitality firm headquartered in downtown Spokane, Hotel Market Solutions (HMS), today announced its engagement as the management company of downtown Spokane’s 36-room historic boutique landmark, The Montvale Hotel.

HMS was hired by the Montvale’s Chapter 11 trustee to manage the 114-year-old property while the hotel’s owner undergoes bankruptcy proceedings. HMS has taken the helm of the hotel with the goal of improving the guest experience with industry-leading hospitality expertise.

“My first priority,” said Kelsey Nearing, the general manager appointed by HMS, “was to take care of our guests. Prior to our arrival, the quality of service had been relaxing; and the reputation of this amazing hotel was slipping. I’m so pleased to be responsible for bringing the Montvale back up to standard with happy employees and impressed guests.”

The Montvale’s address is home to five other business tenants, including three food and beverage outlets. Two weeks ago the bankruptcy trustee closed one of those tenants, Catacombs Pub, amid concerns about proper licensing. The trustee is actively seeking a buyer for the pub, and hopes the cavernous space will be busy again very soon.

“This is an amazing opportunity for a Spokane restaurateur who’s always wanted Catacombs’ incredible location,” noted Frederick Schoener, director of operations for HMS. “The phone is ringing off the hook for reservations, and we’re hoping someone can come in and get the operation running immediately. About The Montvale Hotel - The Montvale Hotel is a boutique hotel in Spokane, Washington. Originally built in 1899 as an SRO (Single Room Occupancy Hotel), the Montvale Hotel also served Spokane as an apartment building and as a youth hostel during Expo '74 and then was abandoned for 30 years. It was restored and reopened in January 2005 as a 36-room boutique hotel, becoming one of Spokane's premier hotels with The Davenport Hotel and the Hotel Lusso. With the demolition of the Pennington Wing at the Davenport Hotel, the Montvale gained the distinction as Spokane’s oldest hotel. Kilmer and Son's Hardware was located on the buildings' main floor for over 60 years. Kilmer once employed Henry J. Kaiser.
