Crowdfunding Campaign for WWII Veteran's True Story of Surviving Gas Chamber in Secret US Test

“Mr. Edwards feared the consequences of speaking about his treatment during the war, so he held his secret for over 50 years,” Owens said. “When his health started to decline, he requested government help and was repeatedly denied.”

Edwards is the only known survivor of about 20 African American soldiers exposed to mustard gas, Lewisite, and other chemicals at Camp Claiborne Louisiana as part of a biochemical weapons program where government scientists researched the effects of toxic chemicals on various skin types.

“It felt like a million fire ants were all over your completebody,” Edwards said of the mustard gas.

With the help and support of politicians, the American Legion, family, and friends, Edwards finally received his rightful health benefits. His story of courage, strength, and triumph against all odds will motivate and inspire the masses.

“This is a story that must be told,” Owens stated. "And Indiegogo provides the perfect platform for meaningful projects like this to see the light of day."

Owens is a college writing professor and freelance writer with a passion for telling stories of overlooked individuals.
