Follow on Google News | PollyGrind to award winning films with distribution contracts at Las Vegas festival in OctoberWild Eye Releasing will be hosting a panel on distribution, presenting a second annual Special Wild Eye Releasing Showcase, and giving away distribution contracts and consultations to festival winners.
“Our official selections always draw buzz and attention from various distributors,” Wild Eye Releasing has been a sponsor of PollyGrind since 2011. Last year, Wild Eye held a special showcase screening of The Disco Exorcist. Hauschild attended the festival and took part in panel discussions. Hauschild wanted his company to be more involved in 2013. So this year Wild Eye Releasing will be hosting a panel on distribution, presenting a second annual Special Wild Eye Releasing Showcase, and giving away distribution contracts and consultations to festival winners. “I think first it was the sheer number of offbeat films PollyGrind programmed, across all genres, which made Wild Eye instantly want to be more involved,” Hauschild said. “It was also clear that Chad was looking for diamonds in the rough of the independent world and being very experimental with his choices, which is exactly what we do as a label, so it was an easy decision. And the fact that there is none of the typical trappings of a film festival and it's just so down to earth, open and honest, very refreshing.” Past PollyGrind films released by Wild Eye include Exhumed and Tight, in addition to The Disco Exorcist. On tap in the future are two award winning and controversial projects Hauschild saw world premiere at the festival last year, Shane Ryan's My Name is A by Anonymous and The Video Diary of Madie O: Final Entries. Many other films Hauschild caught at PollyGrind are still in the works as potential Wild Eye releases. “Wild Eye and PollyGrind are a great team because we both like taking risks and putting a spotlight on films and filmmakers who don’t always conform to a mainstream sensibility, but who have a unique vision and make movies that deserve an audience,” Hauschild said. “PollyGrind is like you got together with your friends and programmed an insane movie binge trying to outdo each other with cool movies every two hours.” An international film festival steeped in artistic freedom, PollyGrind celebrates individuality, diversity, creativity, and empowerment by showcasing the work of filmmakers with defiantly independent visions. Named one of 2012's “25 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee” by MovieMaker, PollyGrind has seen its official selections earn distribution deals from Lionsgate, Troma Entertainment, Alternative Cinema, Sundance, Showtime, IFC Midnight, Hannover House, and a slew of other reputable outlets. In the first month following last year's festival, the top three winners signed distribution deals and began to cultivate remarkable word-of-mouth. The IMDb qualifying event, has been said by Withoutabox.com to revel “in the bold, the exciting, and the avant garde” and “single-handedly redefined what to expect during the film festival experience.” A recent spotlight festival, Withoutabox said “PollyGrind lives to champion underdogs by turning them into beloved sensations.” PollyGrind was one of the first festivals to screen, embrace, and award the underground gems Slime City Massacre, Dead Hooker in a Trunk, The Bunny Game, Dear God No!, Daddy's Little Girl, Hate Crime, Adam Chaplin: Violent Avenger, and many, many more. Wild Eye Releasing has been called a “boutique DVD label specializing in obscure and unwanted cinema.” Their eclectic library includes 1984's Driller: A Sexual Thriller, the 35 mm vintage sex and slime spoof of Michael Jackson's Thriller music video; The Story of Rock N' Roll Comics, the Todd Loren documentary; Upcoming releases include Rena Riffel’s amazing Showgirls 2: Penny's From Heaven, which is her bizarre and beautiful parallel world homage/ continuation of Paul Verhoven's cult classic, and Neil Meschino's award winning sci-fi horror comedy Mold! PollyGrind, scheduled to take place October 9-13, is accepting entries until July 31. The festival offers special discounted categories for women and girl filmmakers, all filmmakers under 18, Nevada filmmakers and films, debut and sophomore features that have not had world premieres, as well as films that have been rejected from other festivals. New this year is also the addition of a screenplay competition. In addition, award winners from the previous year receive a waived entry fee and filmmakers that win one of our big annual awards nab free entries for life. Past festival events have included concerts, burlesque and art shows, as well as a zombie red carpet walk and cupcake eating contest. PollyGrind selections have screened at Sundance, Telluride, Another Hole in the Head, Fantasia, Raindance, Fantastic, Toronto International, Arizona Underground, Chicago International, Austin and more, and it's filmmakers have been covered by Variety, Hollywood Reporter, National Lampoon, Fearnet, Fangoria, Dread Central, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Indiewire, MovieMaker and Arrow in the Head.
