Doctors Gross & Kaplan Open Their Doors To Artists For A Good Cause

NEW YORK - May 10, 2013 - PRLog -- NEW YORK, NY - This week, Dental Partners of 5th Avenue, owned and operated by Dr. Mark Gross and Dr. Andrew Kaplan, launched their very first art showcase called SHINE, to benefit children in need of dental care. SHINE features original paintings by Christel Ibsen and photographs by Sarah Millet available for purchase. Both artists will generously donate 20% of the fee from each painting or photo purchased to go directly to charitable organizations, Operation Smile and Dental Volunteers for Israel (DVI).

"As dental professionals... we provide a quality service to our clients but, often think about those children who are less fortunate. There are thousands who are in need of surgery to repair cleft lips and palates... but have no means to do so. Thousands of children need routine dentistry, but cannot afford treatment. We support these two institutions wholeheartedly because their main goal is to give these children the dental care and normal lives they so desperately deserve," said Dr. Mark Gross.

"SHINE is very important to me because, when I was 12 years old living in Denmark... I was in a horrific car accident that tore apart my upper lip. Dr. Fogh-Andersen found a way to repair my facial injuries both medically and cosmetically," said Christel Ibsen. "Watching a child exploring nature or playing on a beach yields moments of pure inspiration. Little ones help me expand and keep me in touch with my values and roots."

"My work in diverse public health settings has shown me first-hand the impact disease and poverty can have on the health of entire families. I have seen the enormously positive impact of prevention efforts such as those provided by Dental Volunteers for Israel, and am amazed by the generous life-changing interventions provided by the dentists of Operation Smile," said Sarah Millet. "I feel fortunate to have found a way to combine my passion for photography with my desire to help promote the health of children and families."

Christel Ibsen's unique paintings of children are represented and sold in Canada, Grand Cayman, Denmark, Dubai, England, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Italy, Japan, and the United States. Sarah Millet, a research scientist by training and mother of three, captures the purity and innocence of children in her original photographs, something she is very passionate about.

Operation Smile provides free surgical care to children born with a cleft lip and palate. Without this surgery one in ten of those children will not live to see their first birthday. Operation Smile, the largest volunteer-based medical charity, has provided free, life-saving surgery to over 200,000 children in 60 countries to date. While, Dental Volunteers for Israel (DVI), the largest free dental clinic, offers free dental care and education to the children of Israel, regardless of race or religion. Since 1980, DVI has cared for at-risk-children and youths thanks to volunteers from all over the world. In 2012, over 3,000 children were treated through the organization, with a total of over 12,000 dental visits.

Dr. Gross and Dr. Kaplan have been practicing dentistry together for over 30 years. They believe that dentistry is not just a science, but an art, which has inspired them to blanket their office walls with original art and sculpture. Dental Partners of 5th Avenue's SHINE exhibit will be on display from May 9, 2013 through November 6, 2013, which will be followed by the artist Pia Ledy, with other exhibits to follow over the next year. If you're interested in viewing SHINE, please contact the Dental Partners of 5th Avenue's office at (212) 987-7400.
