New Canadian gift retailer website drawing attention on both sides of the border

TORONTO - May 9, 2013 - PRLog -- (TORONTO – APRIL, 2013) – A young Canadian entrepreneur goes to fill what he saw as a gap in the market – selling personalized, luxury gift items online.

David Kanner took the trend towards personalized items even further by expanding SignatureTowels.com earlier this year. The company provides an alternative to the often-sterile gifts that are available over the web by offering unique monogrammed towels and towel products.  Starting from a tiny room piled high with towels in Kanner's grandmother's basement and six skids of inventory in the garage, he now sells across North America. “About 60% of our business comes from the States,” said Kanner.

“We found that our customers didn't just want their name on a towel – they wanted their gift personalized from A to Z,” said Kanner. He did this by designing the website to offer customers many font choices for embroidery, sending handwritten gift cards with each package, and allowing customers to choose the theme for gift wrapping.

The company now sells nearly 20 different products in 14 different colours, including bathrobes, hooded baby towels and spa wraps, and has plans to expand.  Each one can be personalized in over 20 different fonts, from classic and elegant to wacky and fun.

Kanner, who aunt co-founded company back in 2002, took leadership of the business last year, and has led the company through some of the most turbulent times of the recent economic slump.

He says that the best part of the business is the interesting orders they receive. “We have everything from the typical bridal and baby presents to parents buying towels to surprise their kids when they get home from camp, to a school in New York that wanted to treat its teachers to an extra-special holiday present.”

“Though we first assumed that our target audience would be women, we’ve found that shoppers are pretty evenly split,” said Kanner. “I think men find it easier to buy our products because they are still giving something personalized and intimate, without having to go through the hassle of holiday shopping in the mall.”
