Are You at Risk for a Blood Clot?

A recently concluded study done by the FDA has shown that, because of the hormone that is most active in the Yaz contraceptive medication, the drug puts users at an increased risk of developing a blood clot by about 74%.

May 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Irvine, CA—“On October 27, 2011, the FDA released its own study of more than 800,000 women. Although it reached similar results, the FDA study quantified that drugs like Yaz containing drospirenone could actually increase the risk of blood clots by as much as 74%.  With such high occurrence rates and estimates that more than 80 million women have taken these birth control drugs, it came as little surprise when The Institute for Safe Medicine Practices reported that Yaz and Yasmin ranked second highest in 2011 for the number of complications reported to the FDA.”  This excerpt from a well known user report and drug information website contains startling facts about Yaz, a drug used for female birth control and produced by Bayer Pharmaceuticals.  The FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration), according to this website and other prominent sites, has finished several studies on Yaz, showing that because the drug contains drospirenone—a dangerous synthetic progestin—users are at a 74% increased risk for getting a blood clot.

Respected medical journals all around the world are reporting on drospirenone containing medications like Yaz upon the conclusion of studies done on them—all of these studies are finding a disturbingly strong link between Yaz and blooding clotting: “One 10-year study tracked blood clot rates in 15- to 49-year-old Danish women with no history of cardiovascular disease. The study found that women taking pills containing…drospirenone were at higher risk for blood clots than women taking pills containing levonorgestrel, one of the oldest synthetic progestins.  A second study of more than 3,200 Dutch women found that compared with women who did not use birth control, women taking…drospirenone had a 6.3 times greater risk (for developing a blood clot.”  Obviously, this information is upsetting because of the high levels of reported risk, which can lead to not only blood clotting, but DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis), pulmonary embolism, and heart attack as well.
