Follow on Google News | Property Owners Urged To Attend New Britain CT Budget HearingProposed Budget Built On A "House of Cards" and includes unrealistic fee increases and revenue that will not be realized.
By: CT Property Owners Alliance Inc. WHO The Citizens’ Property Owners Association (CPOA) of New Britain, established in 1924, is the oldest taxpayer and property owner advocacy in the State of Connecticut. WHAT The CPOA is holding a rally in advance of the public hearing of the Common Council on the Mayor’s proposed budget. WHEN/WHERE 6:30pm - May 9, 2013 - New Britain High School, 110 Mill Street, New Britain CT. (Budget Hearing to begin at 7:00pm) WHY The CPOA is hoping to raise awareness about several troubling items in the Mayor’s proposed budget. Calling the budget a “work of fiction” the CPOA President, Nicholas Mercier, draws attentions to the Mayor’s revenue projections which come with little justification or basis. “He is predicting our conveyance tax will almost triple from last year. No one thinks the housing market is going to bounce back that much.” Mercier also points to the wide range of fee and license increases, “The Council consider this earlier this year and decided it would crush business, yet here we are again with the same over inflated numbers.” “The taxpayers and the public deserve an honest budget, not a series of lies stacked together like a house of cards. We have already suffered from two bond downgrades under this administration, property owners can’t stand idly by while this administration perpetrates what can only be described as fiscal malfeasance. For additional information about this release please call or email Nicholas Mercier. Phone: End
