Follow on Google News | New Summer Learning Program at Miller Family YMCAThe Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park (320 Via Las Brisas) is offering a new summer learning program for kids entering first through sixth grades in the fall.
By: Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park Classes meet for one hour, twice a week for three weeks. Two, three-week sessions will take place: July 8 through July 25 and August 5 through August 23. Students will be grouped by grade level: grades one and two, grades three and four and grades five and six. Math and science will be covered on Mondays and Wednesdays and reading and writing will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Teachers will also assist with study and test taking skills. Morning and afternoon class times are available. "The Miller Y program addresses the summer learning gap. Research shows that kids lose about one month of learning during summer break," says Julie McConville, the Miller Y's youth development director. "Our program makes learning fun and will give kids the self confidence they need for the coming school year. The teacher-student ratio is low at six to one so students should have a great experience." All teaches have advanced college degrees or California teaching credentials. The cost for each three-week session is $175 per subject. Sibling rates are available. For more information, contact Julie McConville at 805-480-0309, ext. 105, jmcconville@ End
