The Verdict According to the study and statements by employers all over the world led by Gartner, an IT research and advisory firm- It is expected that by 2013 more than 38% of global organizations will stop providing employees with mobile devices and will allow them to choose and use their own at the work place. The analysis also concluded that by 2017 half of the employees situated all over the world will be using their own devices for work. However, even as BYOD is trending these days, most observers still have to evaluate its pros and cons. Here Gartner also noted that although, most employers haven’t yet deciphered the true benefits of BYOD, 22% of Chief Information Officers (CIO’s) round the world acknowledge it to be a Strong business case for them. On this note, Mr. David Willis, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner stated: .Mobile initiatives such as this are often Tentative and may not have a defined Goal behind them. Thus making IT planners uncomfortable. He further stated that: .If you are adopting the BYOD work culture, then take this opportunity as an advantage to show the rest of the organizations what benefits it possesses for you and your business. One can easily guess that BYOD strategy can make a radical change into the economics and cultures of organizations; Why BYOD? Some Concerns and Their Answers As Bring-your own-device continues to become more commonplace, there are some major questions that also surround it, the commonest being the concerns of organizations on how they will finance the use of personal device at work. The research on BYOD on this issue states that among the currently running BYOD programs, certain organizations provide partial financial assistance to employees and full reimbursement for utilizing personal devicesare very rare. Gartner also touts the partial financial assistance or reimbursement strategy to be the best. In this accord Gartner states that: .Organizations working on BYOD strategy should financially assist employees only for the service plan or the utilized connectivity in their smart phones, tablets or laptops. Gartner further said that if it’s a full reimbursement strategy organizations opt for, this will increase their costly over runs. .If an organization buys the device for an employee along with the service plan, what would they do if that employee leaves the job after a month?
