Design consulting firm, Creative Design Resolutions, Inc. (CDR), was contracted to fast-track a complete Aesthetic Master Plan for the new on and off ramps, parapets, abutments, new ramp columns, piers, and MSE retaining walls. As commuters weave through this renovation process and its mass of machinery; they are witnessing the future of a more stunning view, easier traffic flow and brand new structures. CDR and its lead designer and CEO, Steven Weitzman, met with AHTD, the Federal Highway Administration and all other stakeholders to listen to ideas before crafting the design portion of this project. CDR designed an elaborate Aesthetic Master Plan to include imagery wrought from local fauna, flora and historical icons of the area, to garnish the construction. Parapets will have the state emblem as the center element of a design that evokes a theme conceived from the state’s pinecone design and the MSE retaining walls bear the scene of a Loblolly Pine forest lining the highway. The pinecone motif is passed along to the soaring columns and piers securing the new on and off ramps coupled with a color scheme to befit the surrounding landscape. Visitors and residents of Arizona will be treated to a displaying of state pride and structural beauty when the project completes in 2014. CDR is known for specializing in cost-effective, creative, and customized solutions for urban projects. Founder and CEO, Steven Weitzman, has worked in the transportation design and public art industries since 1971, creating CDR in 1998 to focus solely on Aesthetic Master Planning for America's infrastructure. CDR has designed aesthetic treatments for a quarter of all the Departments of Transportations across America and works collaboratively with DOT's, engineers, architects, and developers to create dynamic highway infrastructures. They also work directly with communities to develop site-specific treatments that respect their history, values, environment and architecture.
