CAPITAL HEIGHTS, Md. - May 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Capitol Height’s, MD (May 7, 2013) On June 1, 2013 My Girlfriend’s House will host their Shelter Room Makeover Party at Shepherd’s Cove Shelter in Prince George’s County. The project is a signature give back effort of My Girlfriend’s House to uplift the women and children living in shelters by renovating their rooms into modern-styled suites.

Following the success of their first shelter outreach, My Girlfriend’s House is back with their army of women to offer their service to underserved families. This time the Capitol Heights nonprofit will enlist the help of retail super store BJs and various community groups  and volunteers to renovate five family-rooms in Shepard’s Cove, a Prince George’s County emergency shelter for women and children.

The faculty’s family-rooms, which house 5-6 families per rooms, has a rotation of new residents every four months. The work performed by My Girlfriend’s House will impact over 120 of the shelter’s families per year. This encourages the goal of the shelter to provide a clean and safe environment for all mothers and their children. “We could not be more excited to have My Girlfriend’s House bring their team of mentees and volunteers to Shepherd’s Cove and transform these rooms.” Shepherd’s Cove Assistant Shelter Manager, Vania Fields said. “These families are going through a lot so to have a place where the children can feel comfortable is something we strive to do. We’re all so thankful to have the ladies come.”

The outreach is the second one of its type for the year to reach out to local shelters and offer a gift of community service, outreach support, and a labor of love. My Girlfriend’s House Executive Director, Veronica Eyenga says it’s her pleasure and duty to give back to the community. “I love to see women empower each other and I love to see a community of women of all ages and backgrounds come together to serve and uplift another woman.”
