Daring Professionalism: Are these the only requirements to start up your own business in the modern economic climate?

May 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Needless to say, being fearless is a necessary trait of any entrepreneur who wished his or her way out of an office and into the tireless hours of setting up and laying down the foundations of a small to medium size business. With your own skills in whichever area you are 'starting up' in one must ask - is this enough to succeed? Will my success or failure be due to market conditions? Will I need to plow in more funds than I currently have?

These are the questions that I as company director of Write it Right ask myself as I finally take the plunge and move away from my years of experience working for other people - the good, the bad and the revolting. I now start the journey of cultivating my skills on and offline in marketing, sales, website development and an absurd obsession with correct English to drive my own success.

What can I tell you? It feels good. Spending hours perfecting something that I have ownership over, drinking silly amounts of coffee whilst thinking of the best wording, best places to market in, lowest costs - I love it and its what I do well.
So this is what I will continue to do for myself and for clients, as my role apart from calling myself company director (which was really just to make me feel good about the start up costs) is to get businesses online off the ground through social media, SEO and website content.

Back to the initial question- Is it enough?

An important factor are your colleagues for several reasons.
Happy work environments are productive work environments. If you have ever worked with people you don't really get along with you will immediately identify with this, your surroundings are everything.
Professional competence is something that in my years of working for several companies has been questionable and sometimes worrying.
Luckily I was able to handpick my colleagues and in the wonderful modern tech world we do not have to be in the same place to communicate effectively ( skype/facetime etc.) I also chose the best professionals in the content and copy writing business. We work with job seekers, students and basically anyone who wants to write anything in English .

Another considerable factor are your tech savvy abilities. Are you ready to accept that word of mouth does not mean your friends and their friends telling their friends what a decent person you are? This is step one of moving into the 21st century where google acceptance, forums, and accessibility are all essential ingredients to your business credibility. Can you create a buzz around your company? Does it relate to what you are trying to provide/sell?

You have to be seen to be heard and this does not need to be expensive at all, Fact.

Is there a need for your product? I would argue there is always a need, as long as you are selling something real and trustworthy, there will be someone out there who wants it. People could argue that copy and content writing is passe with online editing programs etc, however I'm assuming that whoever argues that has neither experienced the embarrassing "autocorrect" moments that are the difference between looking professional and looking - well looking a bit silly.

So this is where Write it Right starts - with a lot of passion and some true professionalism in a shifting and unpredictable market. With the true spirit of an entrepreneur I say we are ready for anything- bring it on!
