Volkswagen Unveils The CrossBlue Coupe Concept

Spectators were given a first-look at Volkswagen’s new high-performance and fuel-efficient concept vehicle at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - May 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Volkswagen revealed their brand-new compact sport utility vehicle concept that manages the coveted combination of power and fuel-efficiency into one package. With an exterior design resembling an evolved, streamlined 2013 Volkswagen Touareg—currently available at Auto Haus VW in Winnipeg (http://Auto%20Haus%20Volkswagen,%20a%20premiere%20Winnipeg,%20MB%20Volkswagen%20dealer)—it’s plain to see that Volkswagen is looking to evolve the future of the SUV.

The Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe Concept is outfitted with two electric motors mounted at the front and rear of the vehicle. A direct-injection V6 engine capable of 295 hp ties the CrossBlue Coupe Concept’s powerful drivetrain together. Volkswagen’s SUV concept has a focus on performance—achieving 0-96 km/h in only 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 236 km/h—showing that the CrossBlue Coupe is able to take full advantage of its combination electric/gasoline powertrain.

The environmentally conscious can appreciate Volkswagen’s new CrossBlue Coupe concept as well. It is estimated that the concept SUV will be able to travel upwards of 34 km on electricity alone. Using the combined dual electric motors and gasoline engine, the model uses 3.0L/100 km, and when running on the gasoline engine alone, it still only uses 6.9L/100 km.

Encountering the instrument cluster of the CrossBlue concept for the first time, auto show attendees saw that it uses analog gauges with a surprising twist. The instruments are user programmable and feature two different display modes. “Eco” mode shows the driver the battery status on the right side, while the left side of the cluster is reserved for the speedometer and fuel supply indicator. The center instrument panel displays gear selection, weather, and navigation. “Sport” mode has the tachometer on the left instrument panel with torque and battery life at the center.
