The Green Hornet originated on January 31, 1936, on WXYZ, the same local Detroit station that originated its companion shows The Lone Ranger and Challenge of the Yukon. Beginning April 12, 1938, the station supplied the series to the Mutual Broadcasting System radio network, and then to NBC Blue and its successors, the Blue Network and ABC Network, from November 16, 1939, through September 8, 1950. It returned from September 10 to December 5, 1952. It was sponsored by General Mills from January to August 1948, and by Orange Crush in its brief 1952 run. Distinguished by its use of classical music for themes and for bridges between scenes, The Green Hornet was "one of radio's best-known and most distinctive juvenile adventure shows". The series detailed the adventures of Britt Reid, debonair newspaper publisher by day, crime-fighting masked hero at night. With his faithful valet Kato, Britt Reid, daring young publisher, matches wits with the Underworld, risking his life so that criminals and racketeers within the law may feel its weight by the sting of the Green Hornet! From Joe Bevilacqua and his Waterlogg Productions, makers of the hilarious Misadventures of Sherlock Holmes, and Uncle Dunkle and Donnie, comes volume 2 in the Best of the Comedy-o-Rama Hour. And it couldn't come at a better time. The current trend in audiobooks is the revitalization of the classic radio program, and all the publishers are doing it. From Doc Savage, to The Black Mask, to NPR's Car Talk, it seems that America is rediscovering the joys of the spoken word. And Joe Bev is adding some very worthwhile products to the market. Old-time Radio Parodies is up to the usual Waterlogg Productions high standards, featuring a full cast of talented voice actors, and cinema quality music and sound effects. I promise you'll never be disappointed with how a Waterlogg Production sounds. They even have parodies of commercials like Shouty-O's (shout for Shouty-O's!) cereal, and Blue Coal Tires (the only tires you can burn in your furnace after they go flat). We're talking three hours of non-stop laughs here. Don't miss out!" Steven Brandt, Audiobook Heaven "Preserving -- and recreating -- the sounds of old-time radio is Joseph Bevilacqua's passion. Although he did grow up long after radio's golden days, Mr. Bevilacqua, at the tender age of 4, began drawing cartoons and making up voices. Recently, Mr. Bevilacqua put together a series of old-time radio parodies. For example, there's 'The Ol-l-ld Ranger," the 60-yeart-old cowboy has to bit the (alumiunum) bullet, since the silver market has been cornered by that powerful corporate type, Tonto."
