May 3, 2013 - PRLog -- (VENTURA COUNTY, Calif.) – During National Public Works week, May 19 – 25, the Ventura County Public Works Agency (VCPWA) will host a number of events to express gratitude to hundreds of employees dedicated to improving the quality of life for present and future generations.

VCPWA challenges the public to imagine what a day without public works would look like, such as beginning a day brushing teeth with dirty water, or driving in their vehicle and languishing in bumper-to-bumper traffic throughout the day, not just during rush-hour periods.

VCPWA’s departments include Water and Sanitation, which provides high-quality water and safely and efficiently treats and disposes of wastewater; Watershed Protection District, which provides for the control and conservation of flood and storm waters; and the Transportation Department, which is responsible for planning, designing, funding, operating, and maintaining the unincorporated County’s road system.

On Tuesday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m. in the Hall of Administration, the Board of Supervisors will adopt a resolution in honor of National Public Works Week. VCPWA will also announce this year’s “Employees of the Year” winners. Each department will feature staffed displays, including a heavy equipment display in the parking lot, with a 17,300-pound crane and 5,000-pound remote-control skid steer.

National Public Works Week was established by the American Public Works Association in 1960 and is celebrated across the country to educate communities on the importance of public works.
